mSpot music now offers 5GB free storage to its popular cloud music service that now has over 1.2 million downloads.
The mSpot services offers an alternative to Amazon Cloud Drive and Amazon Cloud Player. This update more than doubles its previous storage cap of 2 gigabytes.
The service was launched for Android in June and for iPhone in December of 2010, and now that it has reached the over 1million download milestone, it has really stepped up its game.
So what is the deal with mSpot?
Start off by visiting the mSpot website and import your iTunes collection or other music folders from your PC or Mac into your mSpot personal music storage, which is referred to as a “locker.” Once you’ve uploaded the music of your choice into its cloud-based solution, you can access it anytime, anywhere from your iPhone, Android device or any PC or Mac desktop. Now you are going to want to go to the Apple App Store and download the mSpot Music app for your iPhone, iPad or IPod touch; or go to the Android Marketplace for Android phones and tablets. Once installed, you make the connection to your account in the cloud and you are golden.
mSpot offers free cloud storage for the first 5 gigabytes (approximately 4000 songs) and the mSpot team is making additional storage available for purchase at the rate 40 gigabytes for $3.99 per month.
It is important to note that this change in policy is currently being pushed live, so people registering today will automatically be upgraded to 5GBs.
Here is what mSpot CEO Daren Tsui stated in his announcement :
“We think we have a better service than storage lockers with a simple ‘player’ User Interface – and in order to remove any price barriers we’re going to offer 5 GB free storage. Going forward, we expect that the market for storage will be very commoditized and price-driven; but unique music services like mSpot will appeal more to music listeners looking for a complete experience on both the mobile and computer, the music locker is only one component of mSpot Music – which is actually a complete cloud music service that will soon include a unique music discovery offering that builds on everything we’ve learned from our customers over the last year.”
The cloud-based music space is really starting to heat up and mSpot looks like a pretty seamless solution.
Head over to the mSpot site and give it a try. By the way, you got the free part, right? Just checking.
