Qualcomm Honors Mobile Music Company with Annual BREW 2008 Developer Award
PALO ALTO, Calif., – June 2, 2008 – mSpot, a mobile music company, today announced that Qualcomm has named mSpot Make-UR-Tones™ the winner in the “Best Up and Coming Application” category of the 7th annual BREW 2008 Developer Awards. The category showcases an application that exhibits creative and practical use of BREW® technology. Additionally, mSpot Remix, a music player with wireless syncing capabilities that lets consumers use their mobile phones to access and play their PC music library from anywhere, was named a finalist in the “Best Personalization/Infotainment Application.”
“What an honor it is to have Make-UR-Tones named a BREW Developer Award winner,” said Daren Tsui, co-founder and CEO of mSpot. “This win is a testament to mSpot’s leadership and commitment to providing an innovative, seamless music experience through easy-to-use applications for mobile phones to our more than two million customers.”
The BREW Developer Awards honor an outstanding array of diverse and innovative BREW applications from a global ecosystem of the industry’s best publishers and developers. This year’s contenders represented a broad cross-section of commercial and pre-commercial BREW applications from seven categories. Each submission was evaluated by a panel of International industry experts based on criteria such as ease of use, originality, features, success or likelihood of success and overall “coolness.” Winners were announced May 28 at the BREW 2008 Conference at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego.
“mSpot’s new Make-UR-Tones application effectively blends two popular areas of mobile content – personalization and music – into one application, allowing consumers to truly customize their mobile experience,” said Kathy Braegger, senior product manager and head of developer relations for Qualcomm Internet Services. “By creating applications that allow for a more personalized experience, developers like mSpot are offering more opportunities to drive the uptake of wireless data services.”
mSpot Make-UR-Tones lets consumers use their mobile phones to easily and legally create completely customizable ringtones from mSpot’s catalogue including titles from EMI Group, Universal, Warner Music Group, and indie labels IRIS and INgrooves. To make a ringtone, consumers choose the song they want from the catalog. Next, they choose the beginning and end of the ringtone using the application’s easy-to-use waveform editor. Users can listen to the song while editing as well as preview the ringtone before downloading the DRM protected copy to their phones.
mSpot Make-UR-Tones is available to mobile operators as a standalone service or a complement to other mSpot popular mobile music services, which include mobile streaming radio and videos, and the mSpot Remix over-the-air (OTA) music syncing service, which allows consumers to listen to the music on their PCs from their mobile phones.
